Hi everyone,

We have been receiving many emails from various users on the list
complaining about the recent flames here...

Users have already left, which is quite worrying. This of course happens
every now and then, and usually things are resolved creatively. But -
because I am receiving loads of emails from people in the community
threatening to leave, I am now forced to get involved.

Below are a selection of comments emailed to me by users. I have plenty
more...

 >Just wanted to comment that whilst I am a big supporter of
open and free expression and have a pretty thick skin when
it comes to ranting and flame wars (I've been through my fair
share, when they use to be more common and spectacular)
I think this a bad situation and causes the situation where
people will start to unsubscribe from the list, which does
little to strengthen the community.

 >Hello Marc, I love Furtherfield and you've done some excellent
work through the years. The Netbehaviour list is usually brilliant,
and one of the most forward thinking, open and flexible lists for
media art practice to date. But, this recent swapping of insults
just downgrades the list to a level of trolls throwing stones at
each other. It really is not fair on everyone else. If this does
not stop I will leave.

 >Marc! This is killing the list for everyone else, please, please,
please do something about it now!

In fact, the individual who wrote this email above has just unsubscribed
themselves ;-(

So, can we calm things down and move on?

Wishing all well

marc
