hi paul,
thanks for these ideas, which are all good - altho unfortunately we're
not a charity so not eligible for the just giving scheme. all the text
donation schemes i've found information about so far are for charities.
flattr is something we intend to look into; & for larger donations, we
are thinking about whether we can do things like acknowledgements,
and/or access to archives or additional materials, in return for large
donations.
one of the tricky things about cyberformance is that it's very difficult
to charge a ticket! first of all we don't (yet) have the technology in
place to do this, but more than that we are up against the expectation
of things online being free, & the fact that the work we are doing is
very experimental; we need to have as few barriers as possible to people
participating.

Hi Helen,
Have you considered Flattr for donations? It has picked up a bit of
interest in the past year or so.
Vodafone offer pay-by-SMS:

but you have to be a registered charity based in the UK. If you have a
wider audience and are of a different organisational type then it may
be more complicated.
You could also offer a credit system, eg people donate a larger sum
which in turn gives them "ticketed" access to performances and/or some
other exclusive element. That may be less hassle in terms of
micropayments but clearly requires a greater up-front payment,
although engaged audiences may indeed be willing to work with that as
an option.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Paul

Subject: [NetBehaviour] text to donate, & paypal alternatives?
hi everyone,
i am looking into ways that online audiences can make
contributions/donations to online performances, & i'm wondering
whether anyone out there has any experience with donating via
mobile phone? (sending a text to donate a set amount).
& can anyone recommend any (vaible) alternatives to paypal?
thanks very much,
