I would guess that the funding structure they have relies on being paid by academic libraries. I think this can and should be changed, but it requires turning a couple of dinosaurs. > How about a PDF (of a whole book, not an just an excerpt) or even a > DRM-free e-book format for an affordable price? I am vastly more likely to buy reasonably priced DRM-free ebooks, incredibly vastly more so when the text is under a Free license. > Wouldn't it in the end help spreading and utilising the information > you wanted to communicate in the first place? It would, but given the presumed funding structure it wouldn't help the information to be created in the first place without other changes. A quick way of transitioning to a system that both funds and frees this kind of work would be a crowdfunding system for academic institutions tied into their publishing arms. (I'm arguing all this from my freetard point of view.) - - Rob. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1 Comment: Using GnuPG with Icedove - http://www.enigmail.net/ iQEcBAEBAgAGBQJTybZ2AAoJECciMUAZd2dZ4s0H/jhPw/SZK/Sh62g5GcPTQnR5 5TPqVbPIslXZF3SDlkLN1j6JscR3Z7CDo2OlHJyB2LKdc1qkglqpIPoWyuhkKKqr Nbbtj9yPykBX6ZUe85j3I4EOaMFjcdj4FqmWY6LoD59HTqwNoYLlzETi806qOJmf db9CnoUTqiqoIkLyUFOLiNB+/tXT9Zh9aE+sDSMrkk8hiWxpBNc+rt3FEVQijUHh m6crm0TB3b+dVoOnjme7nvcZar4riLaWKu3adp/wWLwc1zTDQ5uVUO33raNoeGGw FMvW74KrO1VzjpqQ351gIXdHWYmMKkEOvBsIUHVD2pUnYeRcftw3zMiLc3l/hGE= =YIbR -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ NetBehaviour mailing list [email protected] http://www.netbehaviour.org/mailman/listinfo/netbehaviour
