I know this is the NetBSD mailing list, but Linux did recently merge a 
read/write NTFS implementation from Paragon. I haven't personally tried it (I 
don't have anything formatted with NTFS laying around), but it might be the 
best option for working with NTFS using native tools on a *nix like platform.
