xscreensaver does NOT show the splash screen and keeps running in the
background ok.

When I issue the lock command:

netbsd-nuc$ xscreensaver-command --lock
xscreensaver-command: locking

Screen goes black but when moving mouse or keyboard it never returns to the
login screen. I did pkill xscreensaver and I could return to my XFCE4 session.

error: XDG_RUNTIME_DIR is invalid or not set in the environment.
xscreensaver: 18:33:53: SIGTERM received while locked: exiting

SIGTERM is from pkill command I issued.

xscreensaver-demo works fine showing the different types of screensaver. If I
choose one of them and run xscreensaver-command --lock, the animation works but
I cannot unlock, unlocking screen never appears. I always must kill the
xscreensaver command running in the background.

Thanks.
Ramiro.

Hi again,

Surprisingly xscreensaver from 11.0_2026Q1 works fine in my RPI4 under VNC
session (same XDG_RUNTIME_DIR error,
it seems harmless). Or perhaps using the desktop under en VNC session is not
the same as using it on real Xorg hardware... I am an ignorant about this.

netbsd-nuc$ xscreensaver
error: XDG_RUNTIME_DIR is invalid or not set in the environment.

netbsd-nuc$ pkgin se xscreensaver
