I don't think this will work. ie. the emails will have variable host
information and/or the to:/cc:/from: fields will be completely blank - so
filtering will all but impossible?
Erm, don't you think they kind of thought about that? ie. the 'oh so
powerful' YAM isn't the only email client that supports deletion from the
server - virtually all the PC email clients have supported it for years ;)
I would also guess these emails will be rather large, probably HTML based
(which is why they state '..twice a week') :)
Also, from looking at their web site, it looks very, hm, 'cheaply created'.
They really look like they are collating names, address and email
information, most probably so they can spam you /before/ they even offer you
any kind of service :)
I'm all for an 0800 based server, but I am not sure how ISP's could justify
it.
Think about it: they don't have *any* customers and *aren't* established,
therefore who will want to advertise with them atm? Ok, perhaps a company
like Freeserve could attract major advertisers as they are targetting a few
100,000 people at one time...but I would still doubt they would attract
/enough/ money to run an 0800 access.
ie. what happens if I dial the 0800 number, with ISDN, and just leave it
online? How can they afford to do that?
Also, what happens if 100 of their customers turn on their machines at 9am
on a Monday morning and just leave them on all day, collecting email? This
is wasting so much resources, even the largest ISP's couldn't cope with
this.
So, my opinion? Well, my opinion is they are trying to get as many people as
possible to 'sign up' (on the cheap) so that they can then try to get enough
advertising to justify what they are doing - but IMHO they are going to
struggle.
According to people I've talked to, the X-Streem network (who has a major
backer with loads of $$$$ btw) has all sorts of problems trying to support
all their customers, when they offer the on-off 0800 number.
ie. apparantely getting a free line is near to impossible :)
