Well, unless V 3 / new NC is already finished, I would not like any
definite announcements at all. It's a fact that bugs tend to show up
in almost finished software, as soon as the develloper/distributor
announces an "official" release date. If that happens, they would be
left with two alternatives:
1. Release the software anyway, to keep on schedule, having users call
them, write them, mail to the list etc. because some bugs are still in
the software.
2. Delay the software to make it as good as they can, having users
call them, write them, mail to the list etc. because the promised
release date isn't kept.
Saying as a hint that it might very well be before the show (without
mentioning what year ;-)), is IMHO a good thing. If it is indeed
finished (well) before the show, you will probably know of this
through either this list or the Amiga press, so you could still decide
to visit the show. If for some reason it gets a bit later, Active can
always say that they just indicated a time frame, but didn't make any
promises. They would be right, and I think it's good not to put the
expectations to high for the users, and not putting the pressure to
high for the developers, by not setting a fixed release date. I would
buy the next version yesterday if I could, but hey, if I have to wait,
I'll wait. Of course, it can't hurt asking how much longer you have to
wait, but I have the feeling you won't get a more specific answer, and
I can live with that. At least I know that they are still
thinking/working/planning the next version.
