If the MaxTransfer was too high, files on the drive may already be
corrupted. In this case the only way to be sure is to reformat and
reinstall from the original CD (not from HD backups). The safest
MaxTransfer setting is 0xfe00
There's an easy Real world test of MaxTransfer that's pretty reliable.
Grab a big LhA archive from an Aminet CD or similar, the bigger the
better, and copy it to your hard drive. CD to the directory containing
it in a shell and type.
copy BigArchive.lha BigArchive2.lha
lha t BigArchive2
If your MaxTransfer is too high, the archive will be reported as
corrupt. since it only take one corrupted byte to create LhA errors,
this is a reliable test.
