I think this maybe related to an mcc it uses for the preferences. I've cc'ed
this to Jamie van den Berge who is the co-author of AmIRC 3.

Amiga users :)
AmIRC v1.x first was released in end of 1995 (!) and AmIRC v2.x was a free
upgrade. So, yes, you are right, AmIRC has had myriads of free upgrades
since 1995 through to summer 1999.
AmIRC 3 is a nice product. If people only need the features of AmIRC 2, then
keep AmIRC 2 :)
Only 25% of NC v1 users upgraded to v2 and, to this day, there are still v1
users who phone us for support..
