Hi everyone,
If this is possible to do in NC2.3 I'd appreciate someone explaining
how its done, otherwise I suggest it as a future feature:
When you connect in Voyager (and maybe other programs - I'm not clear
about the inner workings) you get several "connections". It seems to
me that it would be nice to be able to assign these a priority to get
better throughput for a given job.
For example: If I look at a webpage and start to download a file from
a link, if I move onto another page it would be nicer for the user
to have the download relegated to the "background" and interactive
connections like the display of the new page given higher priority of
download bandwidth. Likewise, if at the same time you are using IRC
or telnet or some other highly interactive connection, you'd want that
to take priority over even the display of the webpage. You could take
it further and suggest certain elements within a webpage (eg the html)
should be given priority over others (eg the gfx).
Whether this is a feature of Genesis or of each individual program or
of the remote server I don't have the technical knowledge to say. (I
don't even know if it *could* be done.) Also, whether it would have to
be done manually or if it could be automatic is a big question.
You can kind of apply the same arguments to this as you can to task
scheduling characteristics on a multitasking computer.
Any answers appreciated,
Regards,
Ian
