I'm surprised no-one else has mentioned the new V3Pre4.....
While I've been waiting for the NC3 release I've been eagerly trying
out the various V3 pre-releases that will work. V3Pre2 has become my
preferred browser over the 2.95 release (and any other broswer) by a
long way.
I was therefore very disappointed when I tried the Pre4 (in demo mode)
and it was about as stable as a unicycle with a buckled wheel. It
also has a couple of fairly gross bugs, like the back-button skipping
back 2 pages and the palette selection being very poor until you hit
reload. In fairness, I must say that it only crashed or locked itself
rather than bombing the whole machine (unlike V2.95), but its
nowhere near as good as V3Pre2. Pre4 looks like its going to be the
version shipped with NC3 (judging by the timing of the going-to-press)
and I think that is a real shame since it will reflect badly on
reviews of the NC3 package as a whole, regardless of available
bugfixes over the 'net.
So, can anybody suggest what could be going wrong on my system? After
all, V2.95NC and V3Pre2 behave themsleves very well here, and I've
tried the usual "clean" minimal boot. Has anyone else seen the
problems?
Sorry to be so negative, but I really was disappointed..
