I already had mine set up using NC2, but I just tried and when it
checked the modem existed it didn't complain. I didn't do a complete
interface creation.

You are using squirrelserial.device , I assume. There should be no
spaces, and make sure it is all in lower case. I think you choose it
from a dropdown list.

Ditto (bought with NC2, though). It should work fine.
If you have a terminal program (like AmTerm) you should be able to
test the modem is connected up okay. Use the squirrelserial.device in
the settings, and type ATDT in the main screen. If you are connected
up right (including the phone line) it should go off hook. Press a key
to go onhook.
