I've finally had a chance to install NC3, despite buying it ages
ago... however, it appears to have a few problems :-/
Anyway, advice would be much appreciated - I hope none of the
programmers take this as unconstructive criticism. If I was an unhappy
user I'd have switched to Miami, YAM, etc ;-)
MD2...
First off, I'm aware Microdot-II v1.4 has a Y2K problem (apparently
I'm in the year 100 AD *grin*) so I downloaded the 1.4.4 update...
only, it doesn't recognise the fact I already have an earlier version
of MD2 installed and just installs a fresh copy in a different
directory. I'm tempted to try renaming the Microdot-II directory to
Microdot2 and see what happens, but thought I'd check here first if
there's an easier way to make the update or if this has any
side-effects. Until the update can be applied, I can't send to USENET
as MD2 is not sending valid dates.
Microdot also seems to be permanently confused about the state of the
TCP/IP stack - sometimes it insists it isn't available, other times it
says it's offline when it's online, or online when it's offline. :-/
In previous versions, newsgroup replies made by myself would appear
twice in the appropriate folder - once when I create the message,
another when I download new messages. It's an annoying 'feature', but
I've tolerated it as it just happened in newsgroups... unfortunately,
it appears to have spread to mail now. Any time I send messages to
lists etc. I get copies turning up in the relevant folders, and then
get a duplicate once I've received the copy from the list.
How can I turn this off _permanently_? It's bad enough that I usually
end up with copies of messages appearing in both SPOOL and PRIV
(when just spool would be fine), without duplicates now cluttering up
folders for mailing lists until deleted. I know it's a little thing,
but it's very annoying. Am I the only one who doesn't find this
useful? :-)
Other than that, v1.4 appears to be far more stable stable (1.0 was
starting to crash regularly recently, and truncate large mails) and
faster - particularly noticeable as one or two mail folders have about
4000 messages.
Octopus...
I noticed from the list archives I'm not the only one to have suffered
from the fact it seems to overwrite files with empty files. I had to
restore AWeb from a backup, then patch to version 3.3 after changing
the Voyager icon and settings to AWeb and finding the AWeb-II
executable was now a 0 length file :-(
Also, the Settings/Octopus menu option doesn't appear to do
anything.
WebVision...
Not sure about this one. All it seems to do is hang the machine,
forcing a reboot :-)
Thanks in advance for any help.
