/I tried sending this to the ML but the subject "MD news" failed - so
here it is again. I notice someone else is having the same problem -
and maybe my problem will be their solution (which in turn they can
then tell me how they got it to work). Anyway read on to understand./
Just thought I'd try getting the news group help by my ISP, u-net
(via Wirenet) with Microdot 2 (NC2 v1.4.4).
First tried to get it from MD2 - no luck it says:
"Conversation with NNTP host has failed. A network error occurred
during read: Undefined error:0 " when I press "Update list" in the
news manager window.
Anyway, then I read the docs on the Wirenet site and it says this may
happen so I should down load a separate small program to grab the
list from the u-net site and dump it into MD2.
Next problem - this small proggy expects MD2 data directory to be in
the old 1.3 Microdot-II directory and not Microdot2. No problem, I
copied it and the prefs across and reran the program. It wired and
clicked for 10+ mins or so and then stopped.
I then copied data dir and .prefs back to Microdot2 directory, ran
v1.4.4 and changed to the user it had dumped the news groups list
into.
Now here is where things go wrong. I click on Group manager, it reads
the HDD for a couple of mins then doesn't display anything and locks
up the whole machine (not ever Ctrl-A-A will reboot!)
Seeing as there are other U-net/Wirenet ppl on this ML using NC2/3
perhaps you have some ideas:)
