Very true, Neil, as in DPaint & the A500 onwards, but Bruno still makes a
valid point, which Word Processors have long been conscious of!  I still use
that old Warhorse, Protext, which carries the Menu options of "Save" or
"Save as ASCII",- crucially important for transfering files to Non-Protext
destinations, like PC floppies my nephew has to use at Tech 

Such an option would surely be a useful addition to V3, inter alia!
