Hehe, will that quote make me famous? Would be good, seeing as I
didn't write it :)

I'm afraid I'm gonna disagree. When in the message list window,
pressing delete marks it as deleted and only puts it in Trash when you
exit the folder. The same happens when you're actually reading it - a
little red light appears.
