I don't agree, I can't see why discussion of a particular ISP's problems
(except if directly related to Netconnect stuff, for example if the
problems were ONLY being experienced by Genesis users and not
Miami/Windoze/etc. users) is relevant.

Almost zero ISPs (yeah, I know, RHA, Free4All, Wirenet etc.) are Amiga
friendly. I use NTLWorld and as you will have seen I've given as much help
as I can about signing up to it. Unfortunately I can't comment on
connecting to it with an Amiga because although I use my Amiga on it, the
gateway server which I mentioned earlier is a Linux box. (THe Amiga is
connected to the PC with a null modem cable and again I've offered a number
of times on here and the Genesis list to give help with null modem
connections) Having said that, if anyone wants any technical details that I
can grab from the Linux PPP logs which would be helpful in getting an Amiga
connected then I'd be more than happy to do that. It seems that from what
people say getting connected is not hard, but they are getting weird
crashes. I can't comment on that and that needs reporting to the Genesis
people really.

Well, I would agree that that is selfish if they're not using the
connection, but I do recall that there were complaints about the line being
dropped even when they WERE using it which is partly how this started IIRC.

I understand why you are pissed off, I would be too if I'd paid for a shit
connection like RHA. Just to say outright that 2,3 hours online is
unreasonable is a bit wild though.
Perhaps this can be summed up thus: if you are an RHA/other 0800 user: DON'T
ABUSE IT. If you're not using it, disconnect. There is a vicious circle
where if people have trouble connecting they try to stay online which in
turn increases the load problem and so on. Of course the ISP should make
sure they have excess modems really. II'm encouraged that I've yet to have
an engaged tone on NTLWorld. THey have clearly made sure they've got
appropriate lines etc., and in turn they are avoiding the vicious circle
because by making sure everyone can connect instantly first time they
encourage people to disconnect if they're not using it, if only for 5
minutes, because they have the surety of getting back on again when they
want to.
