Alternativly:
Having modem noise is often useful, removing strings temporarily is a
nuisance.
May modems have earphone sockets and you probably have headphones on your
desk. The jack in the earphone socket fixes the problem and is easily
reversable.
Alternativly, you probably have some headphone adapter plugs in a drawer
somewhere.
