You can but not being addressed or running at the same time :)
You can buy leads which have split with a small and a large plug to fit
different size serial ports.
The "spare" plug carries signal and can be used as a socket, though gender
changers and adapters will be needed.
I currently use this set up with modem and Palm, the modem has to be left on
while the palm syncs though.
