Do you mean you want to create multiple A records for one name? Or
multiple PTR records for one IP?

I want to create several A records mapping several different names to the same
IP address.

string A A 1.2.3.4
stringB A 1.2.3.4
stringC A 1.2.3.4

My User wants to create an A record for "stringD" with "1.2.3.4" as the
address.
Since 1.2.3.4 is statically assigned it will not allow the User to pick it off
the list of addresses in
the subnet menu which is presented to the User.

Seems a reasonable thing to want to do. (After all, if this were any
other domain *not* hosted by Netdot, you would be allowed to add an A
record pointing at that IP)

As a workaround, have you tried:

stringD CNAME stringA
?

No we haven't tried that. We'd really like to use A records just in case
"stringA" machine goes away.

Note that this is easy to do in Netdot if the user is an Admin. I just can't
figure out a way to let
Netdot "User" types do it.
