If this requirement is a must have and you don't have control of the
external site you could try this:

1. Create a leaving ND page.
2. In that page set a cookie with the session string
3. Redirect to the external page.
4. Create a returning to ND page
5. Have the external site send the user to the returning page
6. In the returning page collect the session from the cookie
7. From the returning page redirect to the ND project with the session
in a name value pair.

yes. put something like ??siteaddress as the name and replace it in
onbeforehtmloutput method.

I need to go to the external site and come back

there a way to do so, and where?

Your external site will have to do that and it is not practical
unless you have control over the external site.
        The info is in spidersession.
        search the forum for samples.

I suggest you just open a new window for the external website.
That way the user still have the nd session on the origianl browser
window.
