So what, Curt is provided by vanilla Java for the retrieval of environment
variables.
What we were using was not only deprecated in JDK 1.1, it was broken.

You can use what is provided by vanilla java for interaction with
the file
system, execution of system commands, retrieval of environment
variables, etc.
