Hi everyone,

I am wondering if anyone out there might be experiencing anything similar to the
following:

We have a development environment with 6 NT machines and a NT Server. Each development
machine is running IIS and the ND4 Application server locally - allowing each
developer
to develop independently of the other - minus the database (which is on the
server).
We are also using VSS 5.0 for source code control.

The problem occurs at random times when a developer tries to run a page locally and
the first data object accessed fails. Usually doing some combination of the following
fixes the problem:
  1. Restart the RDBMS Service.
  2. Restart the NetDynamics 4.1 Application Server
  3. Connect to Oracle using SQL Plus and run a query.
  4. Reboot the machine (if the top three don't fix the problems - this occasionally
works - but not always)

I have two ideas for what could be causing the problem:

  1. If the database is restarted and a developer has database connections open,
the problem will usually occur. For us, the database is stopped and
re-started every
night in order for the machine to be backed up.
  2. It seems that the problem occurs less when the Command Center is launched before
ND Studio is launched.

Do either of these ideas sound plausible? Any ideas for how to avoid the problem?

Again, any help/insight would be greatly appreciated as this problem seems to be
plaguing our environment more frequently of late.

Thanks,
Jenn
