fyi, response from NetDynamics Product Manager:
-------------------------------------
Basically, your message is very accurate. There are some minor corrections:
1. ND 5.0.2 will is scheduled to be available 1/25.
2. iPlanet Application Server 6.0 (there are other iPlanet products<g>) will
be available to all customers with current maintenance at no charge as a
developer release in Jan 2000 and as a production/deployment quality release
in March 2000. ND customers who install ND off the iAS6 CD will NOT need to
install any iAS components; customers who install ND 5.0.2 from, say, a
download will not need to install from the new CD (to the best of my
knowledge at this time) since the bits are the same. iAS6: the ND Part will
support the same platforms as we do today and iAS6: the J2EE Part will
support NT/Solaris on day one and then (as usual) add HP, IBM, and DEC UNIX
as platforms subsequently. iAS6 J2EE hardware requirements are not set yet
as the product is still not in final testing; the ND requirements are as
now.
3. The release schedule for the 6.0 follow-on version is probably CYQ4 2000
rather than Fall but we will almost certainly issue an SP first.
4. ND support for 3.x ends at the end of this months (except for Y2K issues,
which extend through 3/31), 4.x will end on 10/1/00, and 5.0.2 support will
be available until 12/31/02.
5. SynerJ is renamed Forte for Java Enterprise Edition, it's app server has
been shelved, and it will be available as a separate product ($) that knows
how to talk to iAS6. NetBeans has been renamed Forte for Java Community
Edition and Forte for Java (something in the middle) Edition.
