Hi all,

So, time for the next version of the tutorial it seems. The next version should be
released this afternoon/night if nothing goes wrong. A brief summary of what has
happened:

I have been sick for a couple of days last week, so I have focused on getting all of
the old stuff lying around finished. This means that the whole "how a rule is written"
chapter is by now almost finished (ie, there are a few things that I will have to look
closer at before actually letting it go). Also, I have spent a lot of time going
through the DocBook code, which should now be much nicer and cleaner. Also, I have
gone through the whole tutorial to make a huge set of highlightings and markups within
the text, as well as rewriting sections of the tutorial which was bad from a
grammatical point etcetera.

I must also admit that I have made a pretty bad mistake previously with all of those
mirroring scripts etcetera. I will still maintain that approach, however, I was so
damn stuck on that approach before that I couldn't see the other solutions at hand.
Anyways, I have figured out a simpler way of working out the links within the HTML
documents. I have now added rules to the makefile which will get rid of the full URL's
and replace them with relative URL's to the scripts, which should work, whereever the
site is mirrored to. A huge apology to, first of all, Dave Wreski for all of the
inconvenience I have put you through with being my normal stubborn self;). Anyways, to
my knowledge there should be no special requirements to mirror this site as of now,
but the scripts should still work properly and they will be maintained just in case
something comes up that makes it necessary to use them again.

The next version of this tutorial will mainly be a huge bug fix since I have been
unable to work anything at all on those while being sick. I have some 30-40 mails
lying here that highlights certain problems or smaller bugs etcetera, and hopefully
all of them should be incorporated by version 1.1.9 of this tutorial, which I also
hope should be the last version of this tutorial for some time since I will move over
and start working on some other projects for a while. Also, I hope that I will have
the time to go through all the scripts and the rc.firewall chapter as well as the
example scripts chapter and have everything fixed there. Among other things, I have
already finished up a small plan for how all the scripts should be disected which
needs to be fulfilled, as well as a hunt through the scripts for which modules are
needed exactly as well as which ipsysctl options should be turned on or off, etcetera.

On a sidenote from those other projects, I have chosen to rearrange the order in which
I will work. I will now write a brief tutorial on ipsysctl first of all, and then go
on to write something larger on iproute2. The ipsysctl will most likely be extremely
brief, something like 40-50 A4 pages as it looks now. I have already written some 10
A4 pages on it, so it is looking quite ok.

If anyone has any questions, or if you or anyone has found problems or bugs within the
tutorial, contact me and I will have a look at it ASAP so they may be incorporated
with the next version of the tutorial.

Have a nice day,

Oskar Andreasson
