Aren't your machines behind the firewall all on the same network? If so,
they won't use the firewall (gateway) to communicate with one another. If
you mean they are using dns to resolve the host name, and the resolved
address is an external IP address, then what you say makes sense. If you
don't have many machines, it is easier just to create entries in your local
hosts files than to monkey about with your own internal DNS.
