If your extension can compile in Java 8, it would be best to compile it in Java 8. Most scala extensions won't be able to upgrade to Java 8 until the next major NetLogo version, but if your extension is in Java, it shouldn't be a problem. If you run into any problems running your extension, please let us know! The next major version of NetLogo (NetLogo 6, release date TBD) will be both compiled and run in Java 8 and will use either the scala library from either scala 2.11 or scala 2.12, depending on how NetLogo 6 release date lines up with the scala 2.12 release.
