You do not need the hotmail account, what you need is the passport account
that comes with hotmail and if I understand this correctly you can sign up
for only the passport account.
I have several people on my list who do not have a hotmail account.

Wherever read about MSM Messenger there is Hotmail account stated as
necessary. However, downloading MSNM 3.0 I was given a choice: signing up
for Hotmail or use my existing account with ISP.
Now, having account with ISP, is there any good reason to use Hotmail with
