For some reason this whole discussion of errorless round-trip conversions generated by flawless tools and inconsequential editorial changes made by infallible editors reminds me of an episode at a company long ago in which a programmer received a "commendation" for "most bugs introduced by fixing a comment." (I won't name names.) From a configuration management perspective, what's the point of introducing a revision identification scheme if it is not used?
