You can use trafgen with --qdisc-path option, which will then not set
the bypass.
im using kernel 3.2, and im still getting:

even when using netsniff-ng and the ethernet link..what does that mean?

seems to be a "local" problem, using a remote host for
tcpdump/netsniff-ng and it works fine.
although this trafgen-0.5.8 appears to send it through the qdiscs,
just not all.
and sorry for replys comming in out of order, i wasnt subscribed to
