Copious published literature, prior art implementation and obviousness hasnt 
stopped USPTO from issuing M$ a patent on docs "encoded in xml", referred to 
in another thread.

The process is so borked, one cant even begin to think of anything other than 
dumping patents. And this was the case from very early, with hughe disputes 
between various inventors and the likes of Alexander G. Bell, Thomas Edison, 
Charles Goodyear etc. It all depends on who can manipulate the system rather 
than any inventiveness.
