Hi Edwin,
Yes, I agreed with him.
September 1984 RMS began to work in GNU Emacs eventually to develop 'Free OS'
at the same time in India 1984 November, Indian Government announced NCP(New
Computer Policy) ... This is the historical, technical and political gap ...
When a guy in the US talked about 'Free OS' India was relaxing import
conditions ... In 1984 many Indians visited many companies in the US, the UK
and Canada et al ... They failed to visit MIT ... If they heared about RMS and
MIT, Indian IT business would be different ... Any history is history ...
Moreover, I'm interested in such discussions which links s/w and politics and
economy.
When these people write about RMS ... Ghandhi ... Free Software and Politics, I
think to express and say 'yes; to them.

Many time I find folks
a) restricting themselves to technology [ open source ]c alling the others
freedom fanatics
b) then comes the second group - restricting themselves to freedom only in the
software domain , their clarity on the nitty gritties of 'free software'
humbles me but at the same time their lack of basic awareness on aspects of
'free society' astonishes me
c) RMS or Gandhi dont restrict themselves to technology or software. RMS has
his own political blog. Gandhi is a pioneering political journalist who set the
tone for the entire press in India.
d) In software - the developer enslaves the user - extracts rent or royalty.
Hence with GPL we have free software.
e) In society - who enslaves whom - and whats the GPL - hence whats free
society
f) we have defined free software
with precision - but free society - i guess its still symbolism like 'into the
heaven of freedom let me country awake' for most of us.
g) Everything is connected :: health - education - software - poverty - freedom.
h) Its important to recognize the connections and see the system as a whole,
rather than seeing a small cog wheel in the machinery as the whole. the
proverbial blind men and the elephant [ without reducing the importance to work
strongly and protect commons in the areas we have are good at]
cheers
