You are mixing up all sorts of issues here. The reasons to these are many varied and unrelated except the one reason, which is government interference resulting in a terribly skewed economy. > Don't make me laugh. Firstly, I would like to make one correction that big > industrialists NOT industries. Do u think, Is it because of the unions or > the Govt(includes bureaucrats and politicians and importantly govt. > policies) or the big industrialists that 1/ India ranks 132 in HDI. Governments. Industrialists and or workers at various times see great short term fun-n-games and accordingly side with stupid policies and governments. Take for example oil subsidy. Having tramped that path for half a century, removing subsidies will throw our economy into a tailspin. So obviously oil subsidy is good because it is used for transportation of poor mans food, making cheap plastic and poor farmers fertiliser etc. Such daft logic flows from the fact that we are making our measurements in a terrible skewed framework. Same goes for protection - farmer, worker, industrialist, software, bpo, whatever - the mere act of protection implies a man in the middle who has no accountability to anyone, alongwith beneficiaries who make it their birthright. The practice of subsidy and or protection is without exception a disaster. The longer you indulge in it the harder is the fall. > 2/ Framers committing suicide. > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farmers%27_suicides_in_India Farmers commiting suicide has got very little to do with industrialists and workers. It has everything to do with unsustainable policies. Why has the government setup the state trading corps and FCI. Why is renumerative prices not offered to farmers? why isnt there insurance for food manufacture. who started farming on marginal lands? why are forests being cut left right and center. Why is vast tracts of land in punjab totally saline? who permitted unlimited pumping of groundwater. And since we have suicide commiting farmers lets increase food prices. No that is not acceptable, let us distribute money to the farmers. Heck we have been doing that with loan write offs anyway. Lets give them free seed and fertiliser and water. What we already doing that?. It's da monsoon ya know lets seed them clouds. NO lets build dams. And drown everyone? only a few will drown. We will think of the ecological disaster and farmer suicides after 30 years when it begins to happen. So here we are 30 years later. BTW those who did not commit suicide then swelled the coffers of unions while working as temps in mills. Lucky there were a surplus of landed and landless labourers, to be exploited so that 30 years hence we can sit and send emails. > 3/ No. of Billionaires and their wealth are increasing, meanwhile > malnutrition children and their % in population are increasing. Aha. Lets shoot the billionaires and take a great leap forward to the gulag archipelago right?. > 4/ Who is > responsible more unequal India(economic and social) which creates a lot of > problem? By your logic billionaire and by a leettle extension his employees. Heck everyone on the list hide if employed / contracted by billionaire or his minions. PolPot where are u? we wanna make em email and comp nerds grow their own food instead of sitting in front of power guzzling / greenhouse gas emitting pc, discussing farmer suicides. Once they actually farm let see how long they will not commit suicide. > 5/ Who is responsible for unprecedented price raise of essential > commodities? 5/ Are they are NOT interlinked, price raise -> demand wage > raise -> one hand Wealth of 53 Indians sums up $335 billion (Fig. 2007) and > another hand farmers are committing suicide -> middle class savings melts > in education and health care -> people in rural die since they can't afford > health care? You and I by consuming essential commodities which poor farmer produces. So farmer increase price trying to get rich so that his kid can afford nutrition, hospital, mobile, internet, fancy degree in private college, then kid can give up farming, join FOSSCOM and cause a shortage of essential commodity which will raise price even more and make farmer billionaire who we can shoot and grab his land to start industry for poor landless non farmer some of whom will become billionaire etc etc aided and abetted by other totally interesting people like Josef Broz Tito, Kim Jong IL Il, Robert Mugabe, Henry Kissinger Bill Gates, POL Pot, Stalin, Jyoti Basu, Jawhar Lal Nehru. What fun social engineering. Pity it takes 50 years to pan out. We should compulsorily shorten the cycle to 25. > JTD and others, The society which is more and more equal can practice more > and more moral values. We can safely shoot all. -- Rgds JTD _______________________________________________ network mailing list [email protected] http://lists.fosscom.in/listinfo.cgi/network-fosscom.in
