This may not be the best argument. But still GNU/Linux is based on a
very secure and tested UNIX architecture.

Adding my 2 paisas (thses are the arguments that I try to put forwards
during my talks)
1. The freedom to share, with my neighbours, students, friends with no
legal liabilities.
2. The freedom of free market, in case you need something fixed, from
anyone at competitive rates. E.g. your door is broken and your
agreement for purchase does not dictate you get it repaired from MS
only.
3. For commercial software your never purchase the software but only a
license with very limited rights.
4. In software it is never what you are promised is what you get! Many
problems are hidden under the polished GUI. Besides the usual bugs
(even sometimes that are known to the company but never disclosed/
fixed due to market/ delivery time pressures), and the usual NSA of
USA security fixtures (recall the Windows 95 NSA encryption key issue)
all you can do is trust. But in FLOSS you can get it verified as well
besides the many eye effect. Bugs get fixed much more quickly in FLOSS
due to many hands effect.
5. And how wikipedia changed the scenario of commercial encyclopaedias
same is going to happen sooner or later for software.
