Friends
a. Govt of Gujarat has floated a tender for e-content creation for
their schools. They have specified the resources should work on the
Ubuntu GNU/Linux system. However most vendors are used to Flash for
creating animation. What are the FOSS options that these vendors could
be asked to consider?
Most of the education content in India is developed on Flash, and many
governments have paid money to develop them. So this is already a sunk
cost for them. Expect them to have resistance to move to anything else.
If they are developing new content, they can look at HTML 5, which look
promising.
b. The Higher Education dept, Govt of Karnataka is revising its comp
science syllabus, the current one requires proprietary software to be
used. People interested in participating in the discussions with the
dept officials (pref Bangalore based) can let us know.
c. The UIDAI has asked Govt of Kerala to do the capture of UID data
using Windows machines. This would compel a govt using FOSS to go back
to proprietary software. Any action/letter FOSSCOMM can consider in
this regard?
Apparently UIDAI has assured Govt of Kerala that they would make it
GNU/Linux compatible 'later'. This reminds me of the 'Nudi' issue in
Karnataka. Govt of Karnataka has announced that Nudi would be made
available on both Windows and GNU/Linux. While the windows version was
released several years back, the GNU/Linux version is still not
available, thereby forcing users of Nudi to be on Windows only. This
'later' process is thus problematic.
Request inputs/suggestions/thoughts on above

Guru
