Dear Friends EPUB Standards of IDPF are open standards. Version 3 of these are based on HTML5 and are specially being designed for publications. Content can accommodate e-text, Video, Animation, Audio and graphics.
Few months are still there for thee to become the full approved standards. Best part of these is that content based on these standards would be full acessible to all including persons with disabilities. I guess, first time in History a mainstream standard is taking care of accessibility to this extent right at the stage of development. The DAISY 3 Standard is the current available standard which has authoring and playback tools also available. This standard can accommodate text, audio and graphics. There will certainly be tools for upgrading DAISY 3 standard ased content to EPUB 3 standard in 2011. Thus DAISY 3 could be one of the serious consideration for content being created as digital publications right now. http:/www.daisy.org http://www.idpf.org Thanks Dipendra -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Prakash Advani Sent: 25 November 2010 12:04 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [fosscomm] Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala On 11/25/2010 11:14 AM, Guru गुरु wrote: > Friends > > a. Most of the education content in India is developed on Flash, and many governments have paid money to develop them. So this is already a sunk cost for them. Expect them to have resistance to move to anything else. If they are developing new content, they can look at HTML 5, which look promising. > > b.
