Hope you have looked at QGIS (Quantum GIS) and GRASS (Geographical Resource
Analysis System Software).  The former can be coupled with the latter to
get some features of GRASS in QGIS, which has a somewhat better graphical
interface. But the latter has all the advantages of a command driven system
(like you can do scripting to speed up repetitive jobs. If you have not, do
look at them.
