I am surprised that the SciDataCon, which I presume is an abbreviated
portmanteau word encompassing science, data and conference, should find it
necessary to mandate the use of proprietary technologies in order to
participate. Slowly but surely, the mandated use of such technologies is
being eradicated, as surely as the risk of polio from our families, from
our groves of academia.

I am sure that with a little adjustment in internal processes of the
organisers, submissions in open formats can be allowed, although it should
not be that difficult to take a proactive step and suggest that they be
preferred.

I cannot think of a more generous view of the future of data sharing and
integration, leading by example.
