Requesting code review for single hosts file (PSARC 2006/299, CR# 6219146: /etc/inet/hosts and /etc/inet/ipnodes need to be the same file.) Please send in your comments by COB Mon July 24th.
Summary: Requiring administrators to maintain two separate files (/etc/inet/hosts and /etc/inet/ipnodes) with IPv4 addresses always in sync is causing confusion and problems. /etc/inet/hosts and /etc/inet/ipnodes files will be merged and a single file (/etc/inet/hosts) is used for storing all IP addresses. The /etc/inet/ipnodes file is replaced as a symlink to /etc/inet/hosts for backwards compatibility. If upgrading to Nevada /etc/inet/ipnodes entries are merged into /etc/inet/hosts during pkg upgrade.
