solaris-devx needs to have an IP address assigned with it.

That part sounds somewhat like CR 4885401, but I think that requires a
panic while doing heavy directory updates.

So, has the system ever panicked?

It doesn't require "heavy" directory updates, a panic while doing
add_drv or rem_drv, which move about files in /etc, is sufficient.

I've seen this problem way too often but it usually messes with the
driver_alises, etc, resulting in a need to use a CD/DVD to get into
single user to fix.
