Instead of messing with nsswitch.conf, I prefer to switch DNS on using hte "name service" question during installation. Of course, you need to have a network interface active at install time for that to work. The usual way of configuring nscd for a more "normal" setup is to simply copy nsswitch.dns to nsswitch.conf .
