consider writing things like this as just.
# cat > /etc/inet/hosts <<EOF
127.0.0.1 loghost
10.0.0.3 aluminum aluminum.americanbackupsolutions.com
EOF

users can still copy and paste the commands, but it is clearer what is actually 
being done.
