Hey folks!

My home server has two NIC ports an nge0 and a bge0 (Tyan S2866 mobo). I'm
going to dedicate one to an external network, and slice the other among three
internal network zones (Internal-only server, Internal-side of NAT, and
proxy-ARP + VPN server).

Which should I slice into VNICs? Does it matter? I thought perhaps one
driver or piece of HW might lend itself to VNICs better than the other.

I'd use the nge0 for your external net, and bge for the VNICs. Bge hardware may or may not support additional v12n features (depending on the model), but IMO the hardware is generally more robust than the Nvidia parts, and probably more performant as well. (I think bge gets a lot more love than nge, since its been used for so long as the "testbed" for a lot of new technology, including crossbow, brussels, etc.)
