Preface: Before this occurred - I set a static IP on the OpenSolaris box (had to do this for an unrelated networking issue). I did so following this guide: http://malsserver.blogspot.com/2008/08/setting-up-static-network-configuration.html
Hi after the recent OpenSolaris update I ran into some problems with my internet connectivity. Prior to the update, internet connectivity using DHCP had always been very fast. Firstly Firefox had some issues with bookmarks, then the problem escalated so that whenever I started browsing the net it would first be normal, then after 20-30 seconds would slow down considerably, then after 2-3 minutes new sites would fail to load completely. So I tried going into the previous boot environments and that didn't change it which I found pretty perplexing... READ: I s**t myself. I tried to uninstall all Firefox related packages using the package manager but that didn't work. Then I installed Opera and that also had the exact same internet connectivity problem. The OpenSolaris box is connected to the internet via a network cable to router. I can ping other computers on the network (albeit with high ms of around 500 whereas another computer can ping the OS box at <1ms). All other computers on the network are DHCP but the OS box is static (set in OS using the above guide). My internet is very fast and is not affected by any external slowdowns which may be causing the problem in OS. Is it possible that the static IP is causing the problem? Previously, if I had set it incorrectly (following other guides or mistaking some parts of the procedure) then there would be NO internet connectivity. Whereas now I am able to connect but after a while it degrades and eventually doesn't work unless I log off or reboot. I have checked the device driver manager and there were no problems listed. I understand I have not provided many technical details but if you could please direct me as to what information you require for debugging than I would be more than happy to oblige. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ networking-discuss mailing list [email protected]
