I tried the manual mode and it works fine, i.e. I get the network connection initiated before a user login has been initiated so I can run the server without any I/O devices connected to it.
But then I found out that the network connection also works and gets initiated before user login when using nwam. Either this problem has been present only in previous builds and got fixed in one of the updates or this is a latent problem that pops up occasionally. I saw errors in the nwam log and I have posted it in the nwam section. I'm still waiting for an answer. Yesterday I saw that the server had rebooted spontaneously for a reason that is unknown to me and the rpc/bind service was not running, so the CIFS/smb service was down. The server was up in no time after restarting these services over ssh. So something is fishy about it. Regarding the nwam vs manual settings: It seems that the Administration -> Network in Gnome is just a wrapper for switching between and configuring the network/physical:nwam and network/physical:default services. Switching to "manual mode" doesn't run nwam in manual mode as I thought but is actually switching to physical:default. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ networking-discuss mailing list [email protected]
