One issue with static addresses I still have is when u set a static address it loses its address on loss of carrier. It would be nice if static interfaces could hold their address and maybe lose assigned routes on carrier loss.
On a bright note, I was using ubuntu 8.04 today and I would like to say nm has improved very much since then. I personally fall guilty of complaining a lot on this list without any graditude! Thanks nm looking better! On Dec 4, 2009 6:24 PM, "Dan Williams" <[email protected]> wrote: On Fri, 2009-12-04 at 13:33 -0800, David Griffith wrote: > I have machines that must be set up with ... See more details about "system settings" here: http://live.gnome.org/NetworkManager/SystemSettings Basically, you can use the ifupdown plugin to translate the settings from /etc/network/interfaces into configuration that NM uses. That should already be set up for you if you are getting your NM through your distro. Otherwise, you can use /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf to specify the ifupdown plugin. ifupdown has only limited support for configuration though, and the 'keyfile' plugin provides support for all connection types NM supports. NM natively supports static IP addresses; so you can either configure them via /etc/network/interfaces as you normally would, or you can use nm-connection-editor along with the 'keyfile' plugin to set up a system-wide configuration for your machines without touching /e/n/i.
