K&R Second Edition (1988): Appendix B:

The header limits.h defines constants for the sizes of integral 
types.  The values below are acceptable minimum magnitudes: larger 
values may be used.

INT_MAX  +32767
LONG_MAX +2147483647
SHRT_MAX  +32767

On Windows, INT_MAX is:
#define INT_MAX       2147483647    /* maximum (signed) int value */
