Another strange thing: under W95, only 1 serial port (0x03f8) is recognized upon
bootup. The W95 Control Panel, under
System/Device Manager/Ports (COM&LPT) lists only COM1 and LPT1 as present. Yet under
System/Device Manager/Modem the modem is said to
be installed on COM2. And the modem works fine on W95. So there is something going on
independent of the operating system. Of course,
this does not explain why the modem works under windows, so I am no longer convinced
that this is the problem under Linux.
Sigh. And I had so many Linux/KDE plans for the holidays...
