I spoke to the people who built my computer and they told me that the problem is not 
recognizing the serial port COM2 (it is purposely
disabled in the BIOS) but that ``RedHat does not like the modem''. So I will try 
upgrading the modem and see what happens. Anyway, I have
learned a lot through this experience and thank everyone for their time and for using 
their bandwidth.

Now if KDE would just stop locking up my CD player (again, it opens and closes under 
Linux, just not when I am logged in to KDE).

I got the mail from John Brack just as I was sending this. I was sure that I did not 
have a Wintel modem but I guess I was wrong. Thanks,
John.

Now, back to that CD drive...
