It sounds like you may have selected the wrong graphics card when you
installed for your X-server or there could have been some other
problem when you did your install. This is not infrequent with an X
setup on a linux OS install the first time.
Recommend you logging on to your root account, and go into the setup
for X-windows which is the command of (without the quotes)
" XF86config " which is the text setup program for Xfree or I
believe also you could use "XF86Setup" which is a graphical setup for
the X windows server. Make sure you select yes when it asks you if
you want it to assign dependencies and paths for you. Also, make
absolutely sure that you are not doing an auto-probe of your card if
it shows that you shouldnt. Anyway go through that setup again and
see if that solves your problem.
